Florida Man Arrested After Police Discover Botched Castration Attempt Inside His Home

In horrifying yet typical Florida-related news, a 74-year-old Florida man was arrested after authorities found another man bleeding uncontrollably inside his home from a castration surgery that didn’t go as smoothly as planned, Buzzfeed News reports.

Police were responding to a 911 hang-up call when they arrived at the Central Florida residence of Gary Van Ryswyk shortly before midnight on Sunday. Van Ryswyk admitted to authorities that he just cut off the testicles of a 53-year-old man that he linked up with on “a website for those that have a fetish for castration.”

When deputies went to Van Ryswyk’s guest bedroom to check on his freshly castrated friend, they saw the man, who hails from the Tampa area, holding a bloody towel over his groin with a jar containing his testicles by the side of the bed. Police continued their exploration into Van Ryswyk’s home which led them to another room that appeared to be converted into a “makeshift surgical room” with medical equipment and a camera.

Van Ryswyk informed investigators the man was made aware of castrations he performed on bulls and other animals while living on a farm as a kid. He also claims to have removed one of his own testicles in 2012.

Van Ryswyk admits that one week earlier their initial castration plan hit a speed bump because when he tried to sanitize his penis, the man became aroused and ejaculated. The man returned Sunday to complete the procedure at around 10 p.m., but his uncontrollable bleeding made it difficult for Van Ryswyk to apply stitches to close the wound.

The man was flown to a hospital in the Tampa area for “life-saving measures.” He is now in stable condition. Van Ryswyk allegedly admitted to encountering a similar problem when he performed another castration several years ago on a man in a motel, but he cannot remember his name.

Van Ryswyk has been charged with the second-degree felony of practicing medicine without a license resulting in bodily injury. He’s being held in jail on a $250,000 bond.
